Statement for Seeing Red, Mostly Blue

Return to Artwork

From my first creative acts, repetition and pattern have been dominant features, becoming a primary thread through my work. For the last six years, I have focused on discarded, mass-produced fabric such as skirts, shirts, and curtains as subject matter. The traditional genre of still life painting — with its mix of visual generosity and warnings about materialism — is reinterpreted in works which address themes of iteration, time and attention. In the case of these oil paintings and gouache works, I’m specifically searching for red, white, and blue fabric items. Unlike my other work, which I view as having a point of resolution, this project is ongoing.
